The state of Michigan does not have a specific law against this situation. It is up to the parent to know whether or not their sixteen year old is responsible enough to stay home alone overnight.

There's no laws concerning age. Parents need to consider whether the teen is trustworthy. Is he/she going to have a party? The main problem arises when neighbors complain to police. Does the teen have an older relative to call in case he/she get injured? Someone has to be responsible to sign for medical treatment. Is the teen going to stay home or roam the streets? Parents have to trust the teen to behave and not get in trouble.
