The TriField meter is a brand name of Alpha Labs. The meters detect static or non-statis electromagnetic fields. The static meter, known more often as the Natural Meter, detects DC signals. The non-static meter detects AC signals. The AC meter is designed to be most sensitive at power line frequencies and has a general working range of from about 30 Hz to a few KHz.
These devices are of questionable merit when it comes to detecting paranormal activity. The key problem is that there is no scientific model for paranormal activity. Usually devices are designed with the thing they are to detect already understood. These meters were designed for one purpose and were appropriated for a different purpose by the ghost hunting community. While apparent anomalies may be detected using these instruments, it is actually more likely these are traceable to more benign sources than paranormal activity and so are really not reliable tools.
These comments apply to most all devices used by paranormal investigators and ghost hunters in their pursuit of the paranormal. There are no devices known to date which can detect the presence of ghosts, spirits or other paranormal activity.
