Amy Adlen, the real-life inspiration for the character in the film "Fly Away Home," is known for her work with Canada geese after her father, Bill Adlen, raised orphaned goslings. She became involved in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts. While specific details about her life after the film are less publicized, she has continued to advocate for animal welfare and has shared her experiences with the film's impact on her life.
Fly Away Home (1996), starred Jeff Daniels and Anna Paquin. This movie was based around the real experiences of a Canadian inventor and microlight enthusiast, Bill Lishman. In the late '80s and early '90s he considered whether geese could be shown alternative migratory patterns if they followed microlight craft on which they had been imprinted. In 1993 after various setbacks, Lishman led a Canada Geese flock on their winter migration from Ontario in Canada to Virginia in the USA. Of the 16 birds in the flock, 13 returned the following year, completely on their own.
