According to the French public service website, there is no reason you can't take away cremated remains, provided that:

- it is not against the deceased's will and arrangements (if they are known);

- remains are treated with respect, dignity and decency.

It is likely that ashes can't travel into the airplane cabin, but only in registered luggage. It is also safe to assume that Scotland has regulations of its own regarding the disposal of the remains after arrival.
