The White Americans gave a peice of land to the Native AMericans so they had to stay on their land and their land only.

The belief that the land was rightfully theirs was enforced by the idea of manifest destiny. (coined by John O'Sullivan in 1845).

An extremly brief definition of Manifest Destiny is the idea that the Americans had a God given right to the land from the Native Americans. ALthough pioneers had started moving west before the idea arrived, it was the driving force behind the idea of the White Americans as the superior being.
