The MPAA ( Motion Picture association of America-Do not confuse with the ACADEMY of Oscar-academy awards fame) established its rating system in l968, originally there were four categories- G-general audiences, M- for Mature audiences(suggested, but kids admitted hands down) R_ restricted- under l7 requires parent or guardian for admission(an odd loophole if there ever was one- could this possibly be PASSIVE Kiddy porn, a bit like kids buying cigars for adults-in reverse- and X- no one admitted under l8 (ages vary) Unlike the Dinosaur, the MPAA ratings have at least attempted to change with the times and currently we have G- same meaning, PG=-Parental Guidance suggested, PG-l3 Parental Guidance age appropriate for l3 and over, R- same meaning as before, and NC-l7 No children, under l7, literally taken, like PT for Patrol Torpedo, or GP (better known as Jeep) for General Purpose (Truck). That is about the size of it. the system was the brainchild of the late Jack Valenti.

There are Red, Green, Yellow, Blue and Orange filters that are used with black and white film.

Then you have Skylight filters that can be used with color or black and white film. A Skylight 1B is coated and can be used as a "warming" filter with color film. The Skylight filter also removes the bluish cast from color film when shooting in the shade.

Then you have the Circular Polarizer which can be used with color or black and white film and is used to remove/reduce glare/reflections from water, snow, glass, sand or painted metal. Its also used to darken a blue sky.
