Commercial farming in India is not always done on a large scale as it is in the US. There are hundreds of small farming operations that grow products such as rice and fruit for both domestic use and exporting.

Figures released by the National Centre for Organic Farming Director A.K. Yadav in Organic Agriculture (Concept, Scenario, Principals and Practices) for 2008/2009 list 351,397 certified farmers working 757,978.71 hectares (1,873,006.18 acres) and another 246,576 farmers converting another 327,669.749 hectares (809,689.583 acres). Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa, and Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand respectively posses the largest amount of area converting to and already devoted to organic farming, the largest number of organic farmers, and the largest numbers of farmers converting to organic farming.

In india, More than 75% people dependent on farming. Which plays an important role in the economy of India. In India, there are small green house and nursery also that do plantation of fruits and vegtables as well as ornamental plants. India is the exporter of sandalwood that is used to made perfumes, oil, furnitureetc. It is mainly found in two type-Red Sandawood Nursery or White sandalwood Nursery.
