Did Matt Houston And CJ ever fall in love on the show Matt Houston?

If I remember correctly, during the pilot episode, Matt Houston made a comment to CJ about them dating. Apparently, they dated for a short time. This was before they became partners and long before the pilot episode. For whatever reason, they ended up just being friends.

However, during the episode, on the Run, CJ tells Matt that "she loves him." I do not understand why his character blew her off. He takes off, she gets shot and that is one of the last, somewhat romantic encounters between the two.

In my opinion, there was so much chemistry between the two that I think it would have been interesting to see what would have happened had they been more than friends. They always dated the weirdest people. Didn't they realize they looked the cutest together? Out of all the women they hooked Matt Houston up with, CJ was always the prettiest (even for the 80's). And out of all the men they hooked CJ up with, Matt Houston was always the hottest (even for the 80's). They should have got over the "we are just friends" line and hooked up! They had way to much unleashed passion between them then I think they realized!!

Can we bring back the 80's and fix this part of Matt Houston? I'm just saying!
