In Navajo philosophical, religious and cultural thought almost everything occurs in a dynamic relationship of four items. Four sacred mountains, four colors, four jewels, four worlds, four parts of life, times of day, steps in an action, fourfold symmetry of most Navajo art, etc. This is similar to how the number three is in much of traditional European culture, i.e. three wishes, three brothers, father, son and holy ghost. However the classical Greek four elements of earth, wind, water and fire are not the same as Navajo traditional thought. So in this sense, no, they do not. However almost everything in Navajo thought is about a balancing of constantly changing relationships between four concepts.
