In US you have to pay. In Canada it's free.
ANSWER:
in US you've got to have benefits through an insurance company. they cover some costs etc.. if you get sick, need prescriptions, go to the doctor or need to stay in the hospital. In Canada we are required to pay taxes right off our paycheque for medicare. it is free to go to the doctor and stay in the hospital unless we request special things like a private room. in that case i believe we pay the difference, not the entire cost.
Things like prescriptions are paid for, for me anyways, partially with benefits from work. For my prescriptions I pay $8 every 3 months for a presciption that would cost $50 without benefits. Without the benefits we'd have to pay 100% of the cost, which can be ridiculous depending on the prescription.
The Provinces and Territories are responsible for providing heath care, they are supposed to follow the Canadian Health Care Act. The Federal Government does make payments to the Provinces and Territories via a complicated formula.
All canadians have universal health care.....good for them!
We pay taxes here to the government, and they use alot of those taxes for our health care system.

By immigrating to Canada. A permanent resident must live in Canada for at least 2 out of five years. That would not make you a resident in most provinces, which has implications such as no provincial healthcare coverage.
A strong and free Canada means a vibrant Canadian economy and a democratic space.
Free Healthcare.
Canada♥
Canada's healthcare is free to all of their citizens. The healthcare is payed for by the money that is collected through the sales taxes. This healthcare insures all of Canada's residents.
Healthcare in Canada isn't actually free. In 1984 a law was passed that gave access to medical care for any citizen from the government. It is similar to what the United States offers for those who qualify for Medicare.
No, healthcare is not free in Canada. It is paid for through taxes. However, it IS free at the point of delivery.
Technically it isn't free. But because we pay taxes, we get 'free healthcare'.

In Canada, doctor visits are covered by the national Medicare program, so any citizen can get a free physical done at any time. If a person lives elsewhere, healthcare costs will depend on what sort of coverage they have and what the healthcare program is. In most countries, there is simply no such thing as a free physical.
health care is never "free" it is socialized medicine what this means is that people pay extra taxes towards this healthcare system, much like they do here in Canada.
In my opinion, Canada is a wonderful place. For example, we have a great healthcare system.
In the United States, healthcare is not free. However, in 2012, it became mandatory for all citizens to purchase insurance.
