Yes and no. In the original 1900 book edition of 'The Wizard of Oz' by Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 6, 1919], Dorothy Gale doesn't carry an apple. But in the beloved 1939 film version, she does. In the movie, she gets in a fight with fighting apple trees when she tries to take apples off the branches instead of off the ground.

In the movie only, the Scarecrow baits the living apple trees into throwing the fruit to Dorothy.

There is no such scene in the book.
