Take the sub from Junon Harbor and go underwater. Swim along the left side wall and you will find an opening with a sunken silver Submarine. Get in there and you will be able to find a whole bunch of goodies and battles that will raise up to 4400 xp and upwards of 400 points for materia. I suggest you go and buy a lot of tents and just spend a few hours in there close to the save point. also once you get Hades summon from in there, use that every time you fight this tentacled flower skull-faced dude. He is deadly, very powerful strikes. Hades will put him to sleep and paralyze anything or anyone.

go to the island where you first saw cloud after he disappears and walk around in that grass area, you normally get 1900 to 2400 exp per battle, and more is ya got the exp materia, also equid weapons and bracelts that create double (or even triple) growth to help speed up the time need to master materias

Edit: I believe firmly that the most ultimate of spots in FF7 to level, VERY QUICKLY is within the final crater before the last Jenova and Sepiroth fights. In here there is one location where its a marshy- type area. Here you will fight the frequently found franchise enemy, Tonberry. You will also find here the magic urns, which yield insane amounts of AP.

I only believe the Submarine is useful for MORPHING the enemies there, as they turn into Permanent Stat Bonuses. The BEST technique for morphing these into those useful items, is Yuffie with her Pinwheel. She will at end game, and a max morph do regular damage, making it easy to do, but still tough. The enemies there are tough.
