You really need to check your local jurisdiction; then, there is the $ amount which can mean the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony; also, have you been arrested or charged...if you have and it's a felony amount, many states have no time limit on prosecution: you could flee your state, come back after 20 years, and be rearrested and tried for a felony.
