Neither iconic actor was ever honored with an Emmy Award. Griffith is most famous as Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show." He was never nominated as the pillar of Mayberry. But co-star Don Knotts, who played Andy's jittery deputy Barney Fife, won five supporting actor Emmys for that role. Griffith received a lone Emmy nomination in 1981 for his dramatic portrayal in the NBC miniseries "Murder In Texas."

Hagman received two Emmy nominations as best actor in a drama series for his portrayal of J.R. Ewing on "Dallas." But he didn't win and received no other nominations during his long TV career. The late Barbara Bel Geddes, who played J.R.'s mother, "Miss Ellie," on the original "Dallas," was the only actor from that longrunning series to ever receive an acting Emmy. She won in 1980.
