Perhaps the most convincing account comes from Krishna Kumar, "Political Agenda of Education: A Study of Colonialist and Nationalist Ideas". Sage, 2005. Page 148. It is attributed to Pratap Narayan Mishra (1856-1894), an eminent essayist and journalist and an associate of Bharatendu Harishchandra. The slogan was originally inspired by the divide between Hindi and Urdu (equated with the Hindu-Muslim divide). However, over the last several decades it has been appropriated by Hindi imperialists, cutting across politcal ideological positions, to further the cause of thrusting Hindi as "the" national language down the throats of all Indians.
The Sprite slogan has changed slightly over the years, but the typical message of the brand is to "obey your thirst." In 2006, the slogan was changed to simply "obey."

The Japanese failed to win over the people of Asia with their slogan of "Asia for the Asians" because their actions during World War II, such as aggression and atrocities, contradicted their message of liberation and independence.
