Well, David had a deep love for God, and even though David sinned agatnst God, He still promised a messiah would come to Israel through David's blood lineage. As of yet that has not happend. Divine births and adoptions do not count.

In 1 Sam 13:14 Samuel describes how God felt about David - "a man after his own heart".

1 Sam 13:14

"But now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the Lord's command."
