Kate Gosselin got pregnant with the assistance of fertility treatments. For both the twin and sextuplet pregnancies, Jon and Kate used InterUterine Insemination (IUI). IUI is intrauterine insemination where you take medication to stimulate ovulation, are monitored via ultrasound, and then the husband's contribution is placed via catheter. There are no eggs "removed" or "put back" as with IVF. So, the Gosselins were truly unaware that there were 7 possible babies in there on the day that our procedure was done. Kate has stated that if there were 7 possible babies "... I can assure you, we would not have gone through with it!!"The Gosselins were told that there were 3 with a possibility of 4 developed follicles - which their doctor deemed appropriate to proceed with the cycle. (Not every follicle contains an egg, all follicles develop separately - so they may not be ready at the same time.)

Nadya Suleman (Octomom) doctor was not a member of an oversight organization and was acting outside of current medical professional accepted practices.

So, there you have it... Kate Gosselin had sextuplets because her ovaries were chemically stimulated and then released for fertilization.
