Born Rolihlahla Mandela he was a terrorist and was instrumental in acts of atrocity and spent 27 years in jail for conspiracy to overthrow the government.

Along with the Nationalist president, F W de Klerk he helped dismantle the apartheid regime in South Africa

Eventually his party, the ANC, (African National Congress) along with an international campaign, convinced the outside world and the white minority in SA that black people of SA should have equal standing and was elected the first black president of South Africa in 1994 in South Africa's first multi-racial election.

He died in 2013 aged 95
