These consisted of a framework of lodgepoles covered with a semi-circular cover made from many hides of buffalo cows, carefully tanned and smoked to make the cover waterproof and then stitched together.Most lodge covers were left unpainted, but a few were decorated - the Cheyenne favoured stripes in their designs, sometimes half the cover would consist of parallel stripes, the other half having figures of men and animals in hunting or battle scenes.See links below for images:
