Some wanted a voice in their government.

A rare few were only interested in gaining personal power.

Some were only concerned about where their next meal was coming from.

A small number of well read individuals were aware of Enlightenment Theory, Voltaire and Rousseau. They genuinely believed in the Rights of Man and the Citizen.

Somehow, together they put together the French Revolution. It experienced false starts and failures, betrayals and blunders and in the process they made the world a better place.

The french revolution was first started by peasants that had to pay large amounts of tax to King Louis XVI while the upper class nobles and clergy men were able to slip away from the grasps of tax paying. France was in a large debt to other countries and the king needed money to pay it off so he used the peasants. Unfortunately, the year tax paying got very high, there were bad harvests and the peasants could barely support their own families never mind tax. The revolution was slowly starting up as peasants started riots and looting. Soon poor men and their families became frantic and as their daily loaves were scarce and expensive starting a riot. In the summer of 1789, a severe shortage of bread caused riots throughout France. In October, about six thousand woman marched in the pouring rain from Paris to Versailles to petition the King for bread. The National Guard had also arrived with 2000 soldiers forcing the king to sign the revolutionaries assembly decrees. When the royal family was captured as captives of the revolution, they were told when they were going to die and soon were all dead except for the youngest child. Now France is a democracy.
