The titanic sank because it hit a large iceberg that was unavoidable. one reason the titanic was a very high-tech ship was because instead of having the traditional one air tank to make it float, it had multiple air tanks. It would only sink if more than five tanks were full(they were all adjoining). Once the fifth tank started slopping water into the sixth, the workers knew it was only a matter of time before the unsinkable ship was sunk.
