The Outsiders is a book written by S.E. Hinton, when she was only 15, finished when she was 16. The book follows the story of Ponyboy Curtis, when he is 14, among the gang, of greasers, and their rival groups, Socs (pronounced So-shiz).
I think the main "social issue" in The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton is the battle between the social classes. On one hand you have the privileged Socs, and on the other, the Greasers. This is a source of tension throughout the novel, ultimately causing the demise of Dally. Hope this helps!

One conflict that Ponyboy faced in The Outsiders is internally that he doesn't know whether Darry loves him or not. Another one is that have doesn't know if he really is a menace to society or if just the socs are the menace. Another one was being jumped by the socs
