After the ship hit the iceberg, many third class passengers were seeking ways to the top decks which were found by many but not all.

Nobody was locked in, down there, they were simply trying to navigate the maze of corridors in what was a new vessel.

What privileges did third class passengers on the Titanic have?

The third class were treated to the same luxuries as 2nd class passengers of most other liners. The third class had access to the decks around the fore and aft cargo hatches, the poop deck, and both well decks. They also had an enclosed ''open space'' on D deck, under the forward well deck. They had plenty of deck space, actual beds with linen and sinks with running water. To most of the steerage passengers, a luxury unheard of in their lives.

Why did most third class passengers die?

Because the Third Class passengers were near the bottom of the ship, so the water drowned them first. Another reason could be they couldn't find their way to the deck, or maybe just because they were third class and just didn't get the same

Why did all Titanic's 2nd class kids survive but not first class?

the first class passengers were closer to the top of the boat, therefore could get to the lifeboats quicker. A lot of the lower class passengers couldn't get up to the deck in time to get a lifeboat as there were not enough. the first class passengers were closer to the top of the boat, therefore could get to the lifeboats quicker. Where were most of the passengers when the titanic was sinking?

Pretty much all of the first and second class passengers were up on deck, but most of the third class steerage passengers were not allowed up on deck because most people back then had petty, nasty class distinctions.

Why were 3rd class Irish passengers more likely to perish?

Third-Class passengers on Titanic were more likely to perish because their quarters were farther down below decks - and finding their ways up to the boat deck were difficult because the ship was hard to navigate.

What was life like on 3rd claass on the titanic?

Life on the Titanic for third class passengers was anything but ideal. Although they were getting to America just as much as the first class passengers were, The conditions for them were so much worse. The wealthy had luxurious rooms and suites with the most elegant furniture while the third class passengers had very small rooms with bunk beds. the ship was divided by class where the upper deck was mostly for the wealthy and the poor were confined to the lower decks. But the real disaster was when the Titanic hit the iceberg. Because first class passengers were closer to the higher decks, it was more possible for them to reach the lifeboats than the third class passengers. There's even evidence to say that ship crew locked the lower class below decks using gates within the ship. The third class passengers on the Titanic had very little comforts on the ship and many were not even given the chance to try to survive.

Was Titanic's crew cruel to 3rd class passengers?

There are accounts of third class being locked below when the ship began sinking, but this was meant as something to keep them in one spot until the crew knew how to handle all of them (considering lifeboats were not available for half the people one boat). Unfortunately, the situation on the ship got so out of hand quickly that the crew forgot about them. There was no direct cruelty except crowd control if riots began. There are also several accounts of crew members going down to the lower levels and guiding large crowds of third class passengers up to the boat deck. It should also be noted that while people often think the third class had it the worst, 25% of the third class survived, while only 23% of the crew did.
