Africa is basically divided by the Sahara dessert. Like many other land masses such as mountain ranges and bodies of water, deserts work as a way to divide people. Norther Africa was mostly kept separate from the Sub Saharan Africa. As a result they developed there own forms of culture, language, religion and ways of life.
There are 2 most significant differences between Northern and Southern Sudan.
First being, the ethnic differences. In South Sudan, majority of the population is Sub-Saharan descent (Black). While in North Sudan, the majority of the population is Semetic (Arab). The other difference is religion. North Sudan is predominatly Muslim, while South Sudan is Christian.
The northern extremities of Kush were in modern-day Egypt, but the majority of Kush is in modern-day Sudan.

Other scholars (Wilkinson 1999) present similar material and cultural evidence- including similarities between predynastic Egypt and traditional African cattle-culture, typical of Southern Sudanese and East African pastoralists of today, and various cultural and artistic data such as iconography on rock art found in both Egypt and in the Sudan.
The Northern and Central parts of Sudan are predominantly Muslim, with the Southern parts being predominantly Christian
Traditional music from Sudan have many types of genres. South Sudan has rich folk music that reflects the cultures of the area. Northern Sudan music has tradition of lyrical music.

Nubia is a region along the Nile River, which is located in northern Sudan and southern Egypt. To the Greeks, they were known as Ethiopians and Nubia as the land of Put who was a grandson of Noah. Nubians are the people of northern Sudan and southern Egypt.
