Charging a PlayStation 3 controller is a lot simpler than you might think it is. With a PlayStation 3 comes a cord that plugs a controller into the system. Hook it up and your controller is already charging. If it is not, one of three things is happening: 1) The cord is broken or faulty. 2) The controller is broken or faulty, or the battery needs to be replaced. 3) The system is turned off. If you address all these problems and the controller is still not charging, contact Sony.

∙ 13y agoUsually You would use the PS3 Controller wire that it should come with,Plug it into one of the little holes on your PS3 Console on one end, and then use the other end of the wire and plug it into the little hole on your PS3 Controller, and it'll charge by itself.

∙ 12y agoTo charge any PlayStation 3 controller simply plug it in to your PS3 with a USB cable. There are also charge stations that allow you to charge multiple controllers at once. These stations can be picked up at almost any electronics store.

∙ 12y agoThere is only one way to charge a PS3 controller without using a usb charge cable. You will have to purchase a charging station for your PS3 controller and use that instead. This however still technically uses usb to charge, it just does not use a long cable.

∙ 12y agoMy friend has the same problem when we play COD black ops together. What you have to do is try to wiggle the charger around when it's in the input. This may take 3-5 minutes depending witch charger you have. If all else fails, it's time to get a new charger.

∙ 10y agoCharging the controller is done only with a USB and USB mini combined cable.. That's how the power will get to the controller entering the controller through the mini USB that the cable is plugged into. How do you enpect to charge it without something to get the power to it. There are also the charging stations that are sold for charging the controllers and they can charge more than one.

∙ 13y agoYou can charge while playing or after you are done, but only if you leave the PS3 on or have a charging station. The PS3 does not charge a controller when it is off.

It is advisable to recharge the PlayStation 3 controller battery when the charge is low. In other words when the PS3 indicated the controller needs a charge you can charge it then, but you can also let it charge whenever you are not using it. The $55 retail ($40-$45 at Amazon depending on color) dual shock 3 controllers were not cheap and most people have multiple controllers. I like to leave mine connected to the TV USB with charging cables. The one I use for playing is then switched with a charged controller if the low battery message come up.
