You take the halter and put the donkey's muzzle through the designated hole. Then, take the ears are carefully bend them forward to fit through the opening they go through. Do not twist the donkey's ears; this might permanently damage fragile nerves there. Once everything is in place, hook the halter in place.

I'd put him in a barn, and feed him some corn. He'd be the best donkey that ever was born.
Donkeys are social animals, and do not like to live alone. Donkeys bray or 'hee haw' expecting another donkey's bray in response. They might also be trying to attract attention, whether it be from a potential breeding partner or their master. Donkeys can bray for quite some time.

The wild stallion balked when his owner tried to put the halter over his ears. - Pixeh
When you put a whale and donkey together you get a whonkey.
One who halts or limps; a cripple., A strong strap or cord., A rope or strap, with or without a headstall, for leading or tying a horse., A rope for hanging malefactors; a noose., To tie by the neck with a rope, strap, or halter; to put a halter on; to subject to a hangman's halter.
Typically a rope halter is fit so that the lead (or the eye-loop) is on the left side of the animal. (See the Related Link below for how such a rope halter is made). First you put the lead length over the goat's shoulders and around the base of its neck so you have it caught. Next, put the halter on from front to back, so it'd be over the nose then to the back of the head. A hand-made halter has the "bight" (the curved end which is also called the "headstall") of the halter around the back of the goat's ears and horns (if it has any horns), then the nose piece put over the bridge of the nose close to its cheeks, and the chin rope under its chin. Once the halter is on, adjust the length of the bight that is behind the goat's ears so that it fits snugly enough so that it won't slip off when you try to lead the goat around.
A man wanted to buy a donkey, and agreed with its owner that he would try out the animal before he bought it. He took the donkey home and put it in the straw-house with all his other donkeys, upon which the new animal left all the other donkeys and at once joined the one that was the most idle and the most greedy eater of them all. Seeing this, the man put a halter on the new donkey and led him back to the owner. Surprised, the owner asked the man, "How is it possible that you can make an accurate judgment of my donkey in such a short time?" The man replied, "I don't need a trial; I know that he will be just the same as the lazy, greedy donkey that he chose for his companion."
You can put a halter on a horse, or a bridle, or a saddle, or a girth, or a lead-rope. Hope this helps!

This is from Aesop's Fables: A man wanted to buy a donkey, and agreed with its owner that he would try out the animal before he bought it. If you have nothing to catch him with and just need to lead him somewhere, grab a chunk of mane behind his ears where the halter normally sits and put gentle pressure on it. If he is well halter trained he should think he's wearing a halter and you should be able to lead him around. If you have a rope, loop it around his neck where the halter sits, again he'll think he's wearing a halter. This is only good for leading him around, obviously you can't tie him with either method.
A wag-halter is a person who moves or wears a halter, or a person who is likely to be hanged.
