The cultural origins of the Indian subcontinent can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilizations, the remains of which are cherished even today. Since the late 16th century India was under the influence of the British Empire until 15th August 1947 the day when India gained independence. India is a land of diverse cultures, religions and communities. There is great diversity in our traditions, manners, habits, tastes and customs. Each and every region of the country portrays different customs and traditions. But though we speak different languages yet we are all Indians. 'Unity in Diversity' has been the distinctive feature of our culture. To live peacefully has been our motto and this motto has helped us to achieve independence. As history tells us that there has been active participation from people of different caste and religion. But unfortunately this peace and understanding among different communities has been endangered lately. India at present is facing many problems. The biggest of these is the problem of communalism. People from different background and culture participated in India's struggle for freedom. The national leaders, particularly Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Azad and Bose had coined the slogan unity in diversity There are numerous others who were also involved. Be it Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain and Sikhs everybody had a single identity of being an Indian. It should be understood that all of us have multiple identities religious, linguistic, cultural, regional and caste identities. No one can claim single identity. One who demands single identity i.e. national identity does not recognize the reality but during India's struggle for freedom no one thought in that manner they just thought of India's independence. Modern India presents a picture of unity in diversity where people of different faiths and beliefs live together in peace and harmony. Still today also India remains one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the world.

Because some negative people get benefitted from making them fights, but laws and rules maintain brotherhood between them. And they punish the conflicts. All have the right to go anywhere they want. 

 

And they have equal rights to use public properties. No one can stop them to use the public properties by showing their power, because no person is allowed any special authority who can stop other people. 

 

Advantages of unity in diversity

This concept of ‘unity in diversity ‘ would be applied in all fields. The benefit of this is that you would have the opportunity to build relationships with different types of people and also your knowledge grows. You have the opportunity to show your exposure to different people.

The concept of unity in diversity is useful in building teams. And it enhances the completion of work before timing. The work done by these teams would be highly appreciated because different people put their effort on the basis of their experiences.

You can learn from other people and thus helping each other will make good relations between people. And they are always be happy working together. It increases the moral values of people, and make stronger bonds between them.

Unity in diversity makes people attracted to other cultures. They feel happy to explore different lifestyles. Different people have different eating habits and so they grow different types of crops, helps in the development of agriculture and economy.

When you travel around the country, from one state to other you will see many geographical changes. There are Himalayas, Plains, Rivers, Agricultures, Glaciers they all add up to the beauty of our country.

Unity in diversity is very useful in big countries where large amount of population lives together. People have to learn to live with different people. Living with unity in such type of country would be beneficial for all.

In India people from different cultures, caste creed, sects live together from the time immemorial. India is a big country with a population of about 125 crores. There are a lot of languages spoke here. The dressing style of people is different, also eating habits have a lot of differences still they live happily with each other.

The beauty of 'Indian unity' is shown when you listen to greet a Hindu by saying 'salaam Waleikum' and a Muslim greets with saying 'Namaste.' Over time they accommodate the cultures and their habitant.

All the Freedom fighters of India belong to different castes and religion, but they stood for the independence of our country and set a perfect example of’ unity in diversity. And also in the present situations, the soldiers of our army forces stand for the protection of people of our country. They only consider the people ‘Indian’ there is no caste for themselves. They believe in unity.

Our holy books also teach us to be united with others. Country comes first our leaders told us. Bhagavad Gita, Quran, Bible, Granth Sahib are great holy books of Hindu, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs in our country.
