The beautiful Paint Little Joe Cartwright rod was named Cochise.
Little Joe Cartwright always rode a black-and-white pinto named Cochise. There were at least 4 horses from Fat Jones Stables used during the early years, and possibly as many as 12 horses as the series came to an end after 14 seasons (430 episodes).
There were 13 different Paint horses, some of them used as stunt doubles but the first one was actually named Cochise.
Little Joe is shot in the back in The Deadly Ones. It pretty much happens right at the beginning when Little Joe comes home at night on Cochise. It's one of my favorite episodes. He was also shot in the back and the leg in Bushwhacked, this is another really good episode.
Ben rode a buckskin named Buck. Adam rode a 7/8 sorrel thoroughbred named Sport. Hoss or Eric rode a dark brown horse named Chubb or Chubby. Little Joe rode a black and white pinto named Cochise whom he often called Cooch.
