The source of radiation for rectangular microstrip radiator is the electric field that is excited between the edges of microstrip element and the ground plane. The fields are excited 180 degree out of phase between opposite edges. Each edge therefore radiates an omnidirectional pattern into half space above the ground plane. The opposing edges are excited out of phase but their radiation adds in phase normal to the element.

What does an antenna do?

Radiates and/or receives radio signals.

How do you test a microstrip antenna?

A micro-strip antenna works on the principle of resonant cavity (short circuit walls on top and bottom, open circuit walls on the sides).A resonant cavity stores energy unlike transmission lines or wave guide which transmits electromagnetic energy from one part to another. A R.C is equivalent to LC device at low frequencies.

What is true about a wireless access point that is equipped with an omnidirectional antenna?

Radiates the signal equally in all directions.

What is difference between horizontal and vertical plane pattern in antenna?

The horizontal plane pattern of an antenna describes its radiation characteristics when viewed from above, displaying how the antenna radiates signal in the horizontal plane around it. In contrast, the vertical plane pattern depicts the antenna's radiation characteristics when viewed from the side, showing how it radiates signal up and down. These patterns are crucial for understanding an antenna's coverage and performance in different environments, influencing its application in communication systems.

What is Power Radiation Pattern?

The power radiation pattern represents how the radiated power from an antenna is distributed in space. It shows the strength of the radiated power in different directions relative to the antenna. This pattern helps to understand how an antenna radiates energy and is important in designing and evaluating antenna performance.

Where is Microstrip antenna used?

Micro strip antenna has following advantages : 1) Low profile : conformal (most important) 2) Easy to fabricate 3) Can be used in array 4) Easy to feed the most important use of micro strip is its conformity as it can be conformed to the air crafts, missiles, satellite. A stealth aircraft has about 50-70 micro-strip antennas. the most popular of conformal microstrip antennas are Cylindrical, conical as the are mounted on various parts of aircrafts, missiles etc. they have many use on armament department.

What is the difference between an omnidirectional and an isotropic antenna?

An omnidirectional antenna can be practically implemented but an isotropic antenna cannot be implemented practically. An isotropic antenna resembles an ideal antenna with ideal values for all parameters.

How loop antenna and dipole antenna can be used interchangeably?

A full-wave loop antenna can be interchanged with a folded dipole without much difference. The input impedance is similar and the only difference is in the directivity: a full wave loop radiates along the axis of the loop, while a vertical folded dipole is omnidirectional.
