In the memoir "Kaffir Boy" by Mark Mathabane, the main conflict arises from the oppressive system of apartheid in South Africa, which perpetuates racial segregation and discrimination. The protagonist faces internal conflict as he struggles to reconcile his aspirations for a better future with the limited opportunities available to him as a black person living under apartheid. Additionally, there is conflict within his family as they grapple with poverty, violence, and the desire for a better life.
Simply because of ethnic/cultural differences between the races living in South Africa. To explain: the white people has a westernized outlook on life while the black nations has a more traditional African outlook on life. Traditionally the black races in Africa consisted of warriors (the men) and the woman were the farmers/food providers. This is still today what many tribes believe how it should be and hence we have conflict in Africa more than in any other continent. It's a way of life for the indigenous people of Africa to fight and steal whilst the white element is completely foreign to such an outlook on life. Together with this culture of conflict and violence comes the belief that it is their right to take from others - because it has always been so (e.g. Shaka and his wars, Xhosa's on the eastern border etc.) and this leads to extreme corruption in most of the government departments bleeding South Africa to death. While one family dies of hunger another one will steal a million rand from government pockets without blinking an eye. It happens every day. It has been the curse of Africa in the past and it will be so in future. That is why Africa is the richest in resources in the world and more people die of hunger and sickness than anywhere else. They just believe in conflict and violence. A sad but true story.
