Darkness was used to symbolize the evilness in Scar by designing him to have dark brown fur and a pure coal black mane to distinguish him as the villian. They also gave the hyenas, Scar's henchmen, a smoky-grayish color for their fur to distinguish them as evil, too. The Elephant Graveyard was given darker hues as well as a shadowy texture to it.
