The ancient Egyptians considered the Nile River to be the source of life as as it provided water for drinking, bathing, washing and irrigating.

The Nile River was also the main way for transporting goods and people as roads could not be built on flooded land or sandy desert, hence becoming ancient Egypt's great highway. It provides an efficient way to travel up and down the narrow strip of land.

Trade was also made possible by the Nile River. Travelers and goods travelled along the river, and traders travelled to Egypt on the Nile and set up stalls on the quay to sell their goods. Other sailors would went there to purchase these goods from the stalls.

In addition, the Nile River was important for agriculture. The main source of water for farming as there was very little rain in Egypt. The Nile flooded once a year and left behind thick black mud which created fertile farming lands for growing crops after the flood.
