Why did the captain of the Titanic try to go around the iceberg?

The captain was not present at the time of the collision but the First Officer DID give commands to avoid the berg - rather than risk a head-on collision.

Who dicided to turn the titanic away from the iceberg?

First Officer Murdoch made the executive decision to steer Titanic "hard to starboard" to try to port-round the iceberg. He also called "full astern" for the engines, but that did not help to slow the ship much if any - probably causing more harm than good in the ship trying to turn.

How fast was the Titanic moving?

It took the RMS Titanic approximately 2 hours 38 minutes from hitting the iceberg to cracking in half. After it cracked in half, the hull plummeted to the ocean floor in about 5 minutes, and the stern took corkscrewed down to the ocean floor about 2 miles deep. So that's a pace of 24 miles per hour on average speed!

Why did the Titanic crash into the iceberg?

Unlike other disasters, the Titanic's sinking by an iceberg on April 14-15, 1912, is seldom disputed. However, the reasons for the actual collision are often debated. Two separate inquests were conducted after the sinking. One was the US Senate hearing (April 19, 1912 in New York, and April 26-May 28, 1912 in Washington) and the other the official Board of Inquiry in London, beginning May 2, 1912. Testimony at these hearings pointed out the following possibilities for contributing causes : * The wireless telegraph operators aboard the Titanic (who were not ship's crew) failed to promptly alert the crew of iceberg warnings reported by two ships in the area. * Although icebergs were likely, and lookouts posted, the ship failed to stop for the night as other ships in the area did. * The dark, moonless night precluded the observation of the iceberg until collision was imminent. * Either of the bridge commands reported by surviving crew would have reduced the ability of the Titanic to turn (either into, or away from the iceberg). Either "full astern" or "full stop" would have stopped the main propeller, and thereby slowed any turns. In any event, the buckling of the Titanic's hull flooded five compartments, and the water overtopped the bulkheads into other areas. This design flaw was never addressed on either of the other two ships of the class.

Yes, she was steered (unsuccessfully) but the engines were not reversed.

Why did'nt the titanic move out of the way of the iceberg?

It did try to but it was such a large and heavy ship that it couldn't move all that way in such little time.

How for sure did the titanic hit the ice berg?

100%. Titanic hit an iceberg and sank from it without a doubt, though some people have created conspiracy theories many decades later to try to make things more dramatic.

Why did the titanic not just go strate into the ice berg?

No crew in their right mind would deliberately hit an iceberg- they would hope to try to avoid hitting it all together. It'd be like asking someone in a car accident "Why didn't you simply just hit the other car straight on?" There's the slight chance it would have been less damaging, but natural reflexes are to try to avoid a collision at all costs.

How did the thitanic sink?

The reason's the the Titanic sunk are many and varied. She was travelling at high speedin order to win a coveted crossing Robbin at the time . Despite warnings of ice in the region from other vestals she maintained her relatively high speed sighting the iceberg which the ship struck seconds later ,the crew had try ed to avoid a collision, this meant that when the titanic struck this iceberg side on and this coupled with the speed of collision resulted in a 100ft gash or slice in the side of the vestal. The Titanic was designed at the time with water proof compartments the length of the ship, the collision ruptured three of these apartments . Given the limitations of the design the ship could stay afloat if any two of these apartments where ruptured, but given that three where breached during the collision, from the moment of impact the Titanic was always going to sink ,it was only a matter of time.

Why did so many Titanic passengers loose their life?

The captain of the titanic wanted to reach New York in record time, the captain decided to take a detour to try and achieve this goal, a iceberg was spotted as it was pitch black they could hardly see, and the engineers put the titanic into reverse gear which was a big mistake, if they kept at the same speed they could have avoided it and gotten closer to New York or atleast another ship. anyway... the titanic began to fill up with sea water as did the lifeboats with people, stranded in ice cold water for 4 hours, Man, woman and child lost their lives to the sea. No ships were in the radius of the Titanic, and it would've taken a long time to get out to them.
