Oh, dude, Zero wasn't at Camp Green Lake for a specific length of time. He was just there, you know, existing in the desert heat, digging holes and all that fun stuff. Time is just a construct, man. Like, who needs to keep track of days when you're living the dream at a juvenile detention camp?
I think it is because he hit Sumone with the shovel
The best digger at Camp Green Lake is widely considered to be Zero, also known as Hector Zeroni. Despite his quiet demeanor and initial struggles with reading and writing, Zero demonstrates exceptional digging skills and stamina. His ability to dig faster and more efficiently than the other boys sets him apart, making him a standout in the harsh conditions of the camp.

The smallest kid in Group D at Camp Green Lake was Zero, whose real name is Hector Zeroni. He was often overlooked by others due to his small stature and quiet demeanor, but he proved to be resourceful and intelligent throughout the story. Zero formed a strong bond with the protagonist, Stanley Yelnats, and played a crucial role in the plot's unfolding.

It's because he is extremely quiet and never speaks, hence his nickname 'Zero.'
In "Holes" by Louis Sachar, Zero is sent to Camp Green Lake for allegedly stealing a pair of sneakers from a store.
because both Stanley and Zero were caught with the shoes
I think it is because he hit Sumone with the shovel
He was accused of stealing shoes (even though he didn't...Zero did and tossed them over a bridge on top of him.)
