This is actually a pretty difficult question, with a few different answers depending on how you approach the question.
Let's start with the United Kingdom. In the U.K, they released 12 full length albums, 12 EPs (short albums), 1 double EP (a short album, released as two records), and 24 singles, for a grand total of 49. In addition, many of their albums came in two different versions, mono and stereo. The stereo versions often sound markedly different than the mono versions.
If you're only talking about full-length studio albums on vinyl, there were 12 released in the U.K. although Magical Mystery Tour was later released on CD as a full-length album, bringing the total to 13.
In the United States, 19 full-length albums on vinyl were released, although most of these are hard to find.
Moving on to compact discs, it gets even more complicated. Every original U.K. studio album release is still availble on CD, so that's 12. Magical Mystery Tour was changed from an EP to a full length album in the eighties, making 13. Anthology 1,Anthology 2 and Anthology 3 add three more albums, making 16. Capitol Records 1 and Capitol Records 2, which have all the American Beatles songs, add another two CDs, making 18. Various other compilations include 1962-1966, 1967-1970, Live at the BBC, The Yellow Submarine Soundtrack, The Beatles 1, and Let it Be...Naked. Finally, there is Love, a remix of Beatles songs by Cirque de Soleil, which is considered official, for some odd reason. This makes for a grand total of 25 Beatles CDs.
None when they were together. The last new Beatles album was issued in 1970; Platinum Awards were not issued until 1976. Each of their albums would qualify.
39 Platinum records as of January 2010.
"The Beatles" (White Album) released in 1968, has reached platinum status 19 times. (Apple) "1967-1970", released in 1973, has reached platinum 16 times. (Capitol) "1962-1966", also a compilation released in 1973 by Capitol, reached platinum 15 times. "Abbey Road", released in 1969, reached platinum 12 times. (Capitol) "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", released in 1967, reached platinum 11 times. (Capitol) "1", released in 2000 by Capitol reached 10 times platinum. The Beatles by 1972 had sold more than 1 billion records. They still hold the number one spot for albums and records for most countries around the world. On April 4th 1964 they became the first and only group to hold the first five positions on the Billboard 100. At the same time they also had 7 other singles in the Top 100, along with two Beatles tribute songs from other bands. They still hold the most impressive statistics in the music industry.
Assuming you are talking about the US Platinum certification, the Beatles have had 18 albums go at least single platinum. They are Please Please Me, Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles' Second Album, A Hard Day's Night, Something New, Beatles for Sale, Beatles '65, Beatles VI, Help!, Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The Beatles (White Album), Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, and Let It Be.
Most of these albums have gone multi-platinum. Most notable of these is The Beatles (White Album), which went 19 times platinum in the United States.
The RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America maintains the certification of gold and platinum sales. The official threshold for certification has changed over the years, but Platinum sales started being counted in 1976, six years after the Beatles broke up. So the Beatles didn't receive any platinum awards for any of their original releases, because it didn't exist then.

The Beatles released a double album called "The Beatles" in a plain white sleeve; it is better known as The White Album. Black Albums, are "bootleg" albums - sometimes of some of the demo tracks recorded for the White Album.
There are many Beatles albums, some are compilations of certain songs such as the '1' album which is comrpised of 27 of the Beatles number 1 hits and the Anthology albums which contain rare unpublished songs as well as their most memorable hits.
