David is not normally accredited with any writings except the Psalms. Of these the superscriptions or titles (often with the occasion of writing) attribute 73 Psalms to him and the New Testament adds Psalms 2 and 95 to this. Fifty of the Psalms are anonymous. Some of these are traditionally believed to have been written by Ezra, although some could have been also written by David.

A:King David is traditionally credited with writing a large number of the psalms, but many of those credited to him refer to places or events he could not possibly have known prior to the Babylonian Exile. Some of those attributed to him mention the House of God, or Jerusalem Temple, although The Bible says that it was not built during his lifetime. Scholars say the psalms were a genre that was unknown at the time of David, so we should not really attribute any of them to him.

Some say that David assisted in writing those parts of 1 Kings that cover events in his lifetime. However, 1 Kings and 2 Kings were originally a single book, written in a consistent style in a late form of Hebrew, consistent with having been written towards the end of the divided monarchy. We can confidently say that David wrote nothing in the Book of Kings.
