It took me an Hour and a half to fix it right, but you have to include time getting the supplies... overall about 2 hours or so... running to all the hardware stores and Radioshack to get what you need to fix it.
of course...
if you want to do it in 20 minutes and not take apart the system, you could try at your own risk melting the back inside with a hairdryer.

∙ 13y agoAs many times as you follow the procedure and do not mess up, using better compound the first time you have it will also reduce the risk of getting it again. I suggest Artic 5 thermal compound, And if you must run your ps3 for more then 6 hours at a time i suggest you buy a kit that gives you 2 custom fitted brass plates to reduce heat.

Even the fixes that can be done for YLOD are temporarily and have too be repeated every few months. There's a link or two about it at some sites that I put under the related links. A Hair dryer is for when you get something wet like a mobile phone or controller by spilling on it. Placing something in bag of rice is another method for drying water out of an electrical device.

What is Ylod?
Basically the PS3 YLOD is a hardware fault on the motherboard, sony claim that there is no single reason behind yellow light of death but as a rule this is due to the cheap solder that sony use. When your PlayStation has been on for prolonged periods of time it will reach high temperatures causing the solder on the motherboard to melt, as it cools (when you turn it off) it cracks causing a faulty connection. The term YLOD stands for yellow light of death, after this has happened to your PlayStation any attempt to turn it on will result in it beeping and flashing from green to yellow and finally flashing red. - i can fix it, don't send it into sony. it cost to much and sometimes doesnt even work.
