Why were the Sioux forced to move?

This depends on what you mean by "move". As a stone age hunter/gatherers, the Sioux and all similar native tribes were forced to move to find food and game. After acquiring the horse, they became much more effective hunters... but their horses ate the grass wherever they were encamped fairly rapidly. Thus the Native Americans who relied on horses were often forced to move even more often to find forage for their horses. ( this was why they seldom grouped in very large numbers, as the needs of the horses would force them to move camp every few days if there were thousands of native Americans in the camp. ) And finally, as the Western cultures encroached upon and took over their lands, the Native Americans were forced to move onto reservations.
