Speaking as a Canadian, I'd like to believe Canadians are all equally and uniformly pleased to heartily welcome any and all travellers to our country as honoured, respected and welcome, long-hoped-for guests, whom we all would enjoy helping make their pleasant excursion throughout our awe-inspiringly beautiful nation as mutually rewarding, enriching, entertaining, educational and relaxing as possible, becoming saddened when our new-found friends reluctantly leave...

...that having been said...

Canadians are 'people'...people!!!

If you, after excusing yourself for interrupting, ask a clear, concise question in a friendly, polite manner, you increase the liklihood of receiving a clear, concise answer to that question in a similarly friendly, polite manner.

Honest questions about our History, Resources, Culture (yes, we've got some of that, too), Ethnic Diversity, Multiculturalism, First Nations, Religions, Politics, Sex...whatnot...will receive answers whose tone will depend more on your attitude, approach and politeness than it will on ours.

Make 'jokes' about the 'different' colours of our paper money, the 'strangeness' of having French on the grocery labels instead of Spanish, the 'peculiarity' of the speed limit signs in 'kilometers per hour' instead of miles, our abbreviated Football season played on 'funny' shaped fields with oddly-shaped balls, back bacon (we do NOT call it 'Canadian' among ourselves, btw), maple syrup, the funny smell of our cigarettes, Polar Bears, Igloos, Nelson Eddy, Jeanette Macdonald, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Mike Myers, Alex Trebec, Lorne Greene, Nancy Greene, Graham Greene, Red Green...or, how "everybody" who's ever seen 'South Park' now Blames Canada for everything...

...and you'll get a 'joke' right back in return...and...you're welcome!!!

(see...'we've' got senses of humour, too; 99% of SNL materiel is Canadian)

If you are proud of your country...you should be able to understand that even a Foreigner might, just possibly, be just as proud of his!!!

Rule Of Thumb#1: Behave Like "A Tourist"; Get Treated Like One

Rule Of Thumb#2: Behave Decently And Respectfully, Keeping In Mind NOT Everyone You Will Meet Is On Vacation, TOO, And May Not Have Unlimited Time To Deal With You Fully And Completely, To Your Complete And Utter Satisfaction And Contentment, In A Leisurely, Laid-Back Manner, And You'll Get Treated;

BETTER...than a "Tourist"

Hint: Try using both RulesOfThumb...all the time!!! and... everywhere you go, even... at home!!!
