Yes, the legal age of majority in the State of Missouri is 18 not 17. Missouri's juvenile code designates a 17-year-old as being an "adult" for judicial purposes only. This means a 17-year-old who commits a crime can be tried as an adult in an adult court rather than under juvenile procedures. The juvenile code stipulation DOES NOT have any connection nor supercede the state's legal age of majority of 18. In addition, and minor crossing state lines without parental permission is in violation of federal law (18 USC 2243, 18 USC 2423) and can be apprehended and remanded into the custody of the juvenile authorities in the minor's home state.

It is also possible for the underaged female to petition the court to be legally emancipated so she and her child can become eligible for public assistance if that is necessary. In such cases, the minor and her child are usually allowed to continue to reside with her parents or guardian, if that is not possible she can receive further assistance from social services regarding her needs and the needs of her child.
