No. But don't put your life on hold waiting for them to return. The narcisst will return when his current supply is depleted, or he's in between relationships. If he comes back its only to keep his foot in the door "just in case" things don't work out with the new person. Some narcissists call right away (mine did). Others stay away for months (I've been "narcissist-free" for over three months now). Start practicing what you'll say or do if and when he contacts you. Be prepared. And don't fall for any of his excuses or promises. He hasn't changed. He hasn't realized he really loves you. Its all lies and promises. Trust me. There is every hope. Don't ever allow them to spend ANY time alone with the narcissist and protect them from their criticisms and reaffirm their self worth and value if the Narcissist gets to them. if things get bad, just stop taking the children. Their emotional, psychological and mental protection is paramount.

I think they kinda go a little nuts! They begin to question their worth and feel very empty. They will perhaps work long hours to avoid pain. They may try and get attention.
