I think you mean 1860s and yes I would because it would benefit the economy, and provide better defence against Irish Fenian raids and Americans. Also, the intercolonial railway linked with us would benefit us as trade, transportation, and communication would be easier.

Why was albert James smith against the conferderation?

Albert James Smith was against the Confederation because he feared that the taxpayers of prosperous Brunswick (his home State) would be saddled with a major part of the debts and the cost of developing the Province of Canada. He also feared that in the new Confederation Brunswick would lose control over its own destiny. After the Confederation became fact, he reconciled himself with the idea and became the Minister of Fisheries in the Confederation government six years after its establishment.

Why didn't new Brunswick want to join the confederation?

Becuase then they knew that they would get linked between Britain and the US, with the intercolonial railway. And they thought that the US would want to get more land by going up to new brunswick and taking over, so if they when with Canada and the confederation they would get support from Canada.

What province should Prince Edward Island trade with?

Newfoundland and labrador ==================== Prince Edward Island (PEI) connects with New Brunswick via the Confederation Bridge. The mainland end of the Confederation Bridge is near the Nova Scotia border. The Woods Island ferry service runs between PEI and Nova Scotia as well. There is no direct connection between PEI and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It would appear to be more likely that PEI would be trading with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia ahead of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

What strengths did New Brunswick bring to Canada?

Money, resources and they did not compete against Ontario and Quebec like they would have otherwise. The strength they brought was weakness, weakness to defend their own interests. New Brunswick as part of Confederation has not competed with Canada for Atlantic Shipping. This may be the greatest thing NB has done for Canada. If NB had not joined Confederation it would have been free to exploit it's natural harbours to compete with Ontario and Quebec, who spend massive amounts of Confederation money to build the St Lawrence Seaway so ocean ships could travel far inland. NB and other Maritime provinces did not compete with the Seaway. If they had they would have been much more prosperous and the Seaway would have never been built.

Why was New Brunswick for and against confederation?

1 . We need more national resources since Newfoundland is lacking from rich soil but we do have some armies called the Newfoundland Ranger Force that will help protect us but it is little so we still need more people to support our island.
