I think you mean 1860s and yes I would because it would benefit the economy, and provide better defence against Irish Fenian raids and Americans. Also, the intercolonial railway linked with us would benefit us as trade, transportation, and communication would be easier.

If NB had not joined Confederation it would have been free to exploit it's natural harbours to compete with Ontario and Quebec, who spend massive amounts of Confederation money to build the St Lawrence Seaway so ocean ships could travel far inland. NB and other Maritime provinces did not compete with the Seaway. If they had they would have been much more prosperous and the Seaway would have never been built.
