My assumption is that you are talking about A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens. Well, in the first chapter, three punishments are mentioned. It says that their tongues would be pulled out with pincers, his hands cut off, and his body burnt alive. So, I suppose if you think about it, the punishment would be death.
