In law how old do you have to be to stay home alone?

Only a few states have a law. Is the child safe, do they feel safe and can they handle an emergency? Most authorities believe a 12 year old can be left at home for a couple hours during the day.

There is no legal limit to when children stay home alone however the following is advised:

1.) No child under the age of sixteen should be left home alone overnight.

2.) children under the age of thirteen are rarely mature enough to be left alone for a long period of time

3.) babies, toddlers and very young children should never be left alone.
