I am not sure this is a fair comparison. Nancy Grace is a TV celebrity who hosts a legal-themed program on HLN (Headline News). Some people regard her as controversial because she has strong opinions about the guilt or innocence of the people she profiles, and she has been very wrong on some occasions. But she is not a newswoman; she is a commentator, and as such, she is free to express her opinion or do whatever it takes to get ratings for her show. And while she may influence her viewers, her show is not one of the most-watched shows on TV, nor is she able to influence the legal system, the Supreme Court, or the presidency.

J. Edgar Hoover, on the other hand, was very powerful-- his enemies would say he was far too powerful, and they would accuse him of using his power to go after his political and ideological enemies. By many accounts, Hoover was neither impartial nor fair: he used his agency to attack those he disliked or whose politics he disagreed with, including Dr. Martin Luther King and others he regarded (usually without proof) as communists or subversives. While his proponents would say he was an effective crime-fighter, his detractors would note that he expanded the reach of the FBI and maintained close ties to certain presidents and to Republican party politics. In fact, given how much power and authority he had, it is difficult to compare him to a Headline News talk show host.
