It is doubtful that melting a plastic container in a microwave has damaged the appliance. Insure the door and the areas around the door that provide the seal are clean and have not been damaged, then test the oven by warming some water. Any visible damage to the door or the area around the door (which provides the microwave seal) should be evaluated by a professional to insure that there are no radiation leaks.

What does a microwave leak dector do?

It checks that no microwaves have escaped from the oven. Microwaves are harmful to living flesh. Not only will it cook you, as it does in the oven, but even small doses can cause eye cataracts. The door seal has a mesh, that will trap the microwave radiation. The mechanical size of the mesh is designed to interfere with the radio wave length. The door seals can get damaged with use and as radio waves are invisible, no one would know there is a problem. By moving a microwave leak detector around the door seal and cabinet, you can check to see that the oven is safe. The device can also be used for radar systems, that use wave guides up to the scanner, to check joints.

What cookware is safe to use with a microwave?

Do not! put a metal container or anything with even the slightest bit of metal on it in the microwave! you also don't want to put thin plastics in the microwave because they tend to melt. if you do use any kind of plastic your best bet is to only use the plastic that says"microwave safe" or "oven safe". You don't want to use the wrong kind of container when using the microwave. It could be dangerous. Microwave safe materials include glass, ceramics, paper products, and wax paper.

Why do you put plastic in microwave ovens?

The Reason for these is because Some Plastic Can Not Stand the heat that The MicroWave Oven melt produce therefore when you put a unstsble Plastic in the Microwave oven it Will meltAnother Response:Certain types of plastic may be recommended for use in microwave ovens because they allow the microwaves to pass through them. In this way the food inside the plastic container is cooked while the container stays cool. Not all plastics are microwave safe; some will melt. Metal cannot be used in microwaves. Some types of ceramic dishes, which may have metal elements in their glaze, are not safe in microwave ovens. Consequently some companies such as Tupperware, Rubbermaid and Pampered Chef produced lines of plastic cookware specifically for microwave ovens.More recently, studies suggest that molecular particles from some types of plastic migrate into food when heated in microwave ovens. While manufacturers maintain that their products are safe, some medical experts advise using only glass or safe ceramic cookware in microwave ovens.

Can you microwave Styrofoams?

Some Styrofoam (this is the brand name for a type of plastic) can be safely used in a microwave oven but you should check for a microwave-safe label first.According to the Harvard Medial School, the FDA tests the safety of all plastic containers under conditions within their intended use. When used in a microwave oven, these containers release chemicals (plasticizers) within an acceptable range. Using a plastic container that is not microwave-safe is outside the testing of the FDA and should therefore be done with caution, if at all, because the level of chemicals released may exceed an acceptable/healthy range.Note that most takeout containers are not microwave safe so if you plan on reheating that meal you may want to transfer it to a glass or ceramic, microwave-safe container first.

Are plastic bowls safe in the microwave?

Most plastic bowls are safe in the microwave. It is best however to check before use as some will melt. On the bottom of all plastic dishes it should tell you if it would be safe.

Is powerade bottle safe to microwave?

No, anything plastic is not.

Is Microwave in all plastic containers safe?

It depends on the container. Most of them will have a label, either on packaging or on the container itself, saying whether or not it is suitable for use in a microwave. If you can't find this label, it's usually best not to risk it as it can damage your microwave if it melts or bursts. --------------------------------- Although there are many "microwave-safe" plastic containers on the market, there are some who believe cooking with plastic (any plastic) poses a threat to your health. It is generally safer to cook your food in a ceramic or glass container when using a microwave. If you have any doubts, then just use non-plastic containers. It won't break the plastic companies banks if you switch to glass or ceramic dishes (there are plenty of other uses for plastic). One thing you should never do is reuse plastic containers that are from TV dinners, microwave pasta bowls, that sort of thing ... since those plastics are designed for a one-use only. It's best to stay away from those dinners anyway. If you're heating up coffee or a baby bottle full of milk in the microwave ... please use a glass or ceramic container for those as well. What you should not do is listen to CEOs or lawyers of plastic companies. I like plastic for many things, but heating plastic for cooking food ... I don't trust that.

Can you microwave plastic?

You can put plastic in a microwave oven; many microwave-safe containers are made of plastic, and most plastic cling-wraps are suitable for microwave use. Some plastic bags are fine for using in the microwave oven. If in doubt about any type of plastic, read the data on the packaging or check with the manufacturer or retailer.
