Oxford dictionary describes sport as

"An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."

Circus doesn't generally involve competition so by this definition it is not a sport.

However circus performers can be described as athletes -

"A person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise."

Circus is a sport! I do Circus and i get really mad when people tell me it isn't a sport! Even my dad says it isn't a sport!
