I think he's more of a "father figure"...
Darry may have acted coldly toward Ponyboy and his brother Sodapop, but this was likely his way of "being strong" since their parents were dead. Context shows that Darry cared very much about them, and especially wanted Ponyboy to have the chances in life he'd given up (like going to college), to keep them together in the same house.

If your talking about the book The Outsiders then it is Darrel Curtis but the rest of the gang either calls him Darry or Superman because he is so strong.The middle brother is Sodapop Curtis.The youngest brother is Ponyboy Curtis.
