- Countries get a fair chance to perform their self-chosen song of very similar length - 3:00 min
- Performing Placements in the semi-/finals are done at random and so none are given an unwanted place deliberately.
- All contestants/countries are given the stage setting they want.
- All contestants/countries are given the chance to advertise their songs and like the US Elections, are encouraged to promote their songs to areas in Europe that are most likely to vote and others that might not.
- The classic voting strategies: The Balkans, The Soviet Countries, The Nordic Countries and generalneighbors.
- Without sufficient votes fromneighborsand 'allies,' countries with good songs sometimes don't qualify. E.g. Slovakia, Czech Republic, Andorra etc.
- Similarly, countries with political status but sometimes have bad songs, are almost guaranteed a place in the final. E.g. Russia
- The Big 6: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, The UK and the hosting country of the year, automatically get through to the final because of political status.
