South Africa is one of Africa's wealthiest nations. It has the highest GDP value in Africa. Its stock exchange (JSE) is one of the strongest in the world. However, due to a large population and unemployment, the GDP per capita is low. Therefore it is not easy to judge which is the richest country in Africa since a country like Seychelles can have a very low GDP value, but since it is a small country it can have a high GDP per capita value.
Belive it or not India is a rich country. Some small parts all poor but same in the US. Louisana is poor. India has many intresting things. I think its pretty intresting. --Kimberlychic
South Africa is a developing country, but it ranks as a NIC (Newly Industrialised Country) which places it with countries such as India, China, Turkey, Malaysia, Mexico and Brazil. It is also considered an emerging market and as such is developing rapidly. Although it is currently suffering from the global credit crunch, it and Brazil are the two countries in the world least affected by the recession and some analysts have predicted that it will have become a developed country by the second half of the twenty-first century.

Africa is very rich in diamond, silver, and gold
South Africa is known for its rich deposits of various minerals, including gold, platinum, and diamonds. However, it does not mine significant quantities of bauxite, the primary ore for aluminum production. While bauxite is found in some regions of the country, it is not a major focus of mining operations in South Africa.
Very few arent poor. South Africa is one that isnt poor. I wouldnt think Egypt is poor. However even if a country in Africa is rich there could still many people who arent doing as well as their country.
Africa is not a country. Africa is a continent. There are many countries in Africa. Most of the countries in Africa are poor by Western standards.

The gap between rich and poor in South Africa is vast. The rich minority live in luxury while the poor majority live in abject squalor. The middle class is growing very fast and the live a "normal" western lifestyle
Yes. Like any country there are people who are not poor and have the facilities like other parts of the world. Homeless people and poor people in South Africa, like in any country in the world - including rich ones - may not have such easy access to sanitary facilities. The places you're most likely to see as a tourist, yeah.
According to the Phillips Junior School Atlas which I read in school, Libya is the richest country in Africa. The reason for this is mainly due to its oil reserves, but most of North Africa, like Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt also have many natural resources which make them rich. Economically however, South Africa is probably Africa's richest country, but according to the book, it was classed as 'poor' or 'very poor'. There is no exact answer, this is just information which I learnt from the book I read.
It is the 28th country by GDP, so it is rich but not as rich as others, but it is the richest African nation.
